Paruppu urundai kuzhambu / kulambu
Ingredients to grind - paruppu urundai kulambu
red gram - 1/2 cup
rice - 2 tsp
cumin seed - 1 tsp
coconut - 3 pieces
green chili - 1
hing / asafoetida - pinch
Other ingredients - paruppu urundai kulambu
onion - 1/4 cup
garlic - 1/4 cup
coriander pdr - 2 tsp
chili pdr - 2 tsp
fennel seed pdr - 1/2 tsp
tamarind - amla size
thick coconut milk - 1/4 cup
ground tomato - 1
Method - paruppu urundai kulambu
1.Soak red gram, rice in water for 1 hour. Grind red gram, cumin seed, g.chili, rice, coconut without adding water.
2.Make small balls from this dal mixture and deep fry it till you get LITTLE CRISPY OUTER LAYER. It will take only 2 minutes. Don't over fry it . This crispy outer layer covers under cooked dal mixture. It will be well cooked when we boil it with kuzhambu.
3.In a pan add 2 tsp of oil and add mustard, cumin seeds , asafoetida. Now you can saute garlic, onion, ground tomato one by one
4.Add coriander. chili powder, fennel seed powder, coconut milk, tamarind water,and let it boil 6,7 minutes . (add salt)
5.Now add dal balls. After 5 minutes of boiling paruppu urundai kulambu will be ready to serve.
