onion korma - vengaya kuruma

Onion korma 

Onion kurma is one of the main side dish for idly and dosa. When it is in thick gravy it go well with chapati, naan. 

Ingredients

Chopped onion - 2
Urad dal - 1\2 tsp
Mustard seed - 1 tsp
Pepper - 1\2 tsp
curry, coriander leaves

To grind

Coconut - 1/2 cup
Cumin seed - 1 tsp 
Fennel seed or powder - 1 tsp
Tomato - 1
Garlic - 4 cloves
Cashews - 6,7
Asafoetida - pinch
dry chili - 3,4

Preparation

1. In a pan, add 2 tsp of oil and saute all the ingredients one by one to grind. Set aside this ground mixture. 
2. In a pressure cooker add 2 tsp of oil and add mustard seed, urad dal, and pepper. After crackling add curry leaves and saute onion till you get golden brown colour. SEE VIDEO.
3. Now add ground coconut mixture with onion and cook for about 10 minutes or till you get 2 whistle sounds.
4. Now this delicious onion kurma is ready to serve with idly, dosa or chapati.
