Amla Chutney recipe with video / Indian Goose Berry Chutney/ Nellikai thuvayal

Amla Chutney recipe / Indian Goose Berry Chutney/ Nellikai thuvayal

Today I am sharing a very healthy  Indian Goose Berry Chutney ( amla chutney / nellikai thuvayal
recipe ) which can be used as a side dish of curd rice, idly and dosa. I have added my youtube video here.

Ingredients

Big size amla -2 ( gooseberry / nellikkai )
Coconut pieces - 6,7 pieces
Curry leaves - few
Big onion - 1/2
Garlic cloves - 2
Green chili - 2
Asafoetida - pinch
Tamarind - very small size ( already we have sour amlas )

For Seasonings

Mustard seed - 1/2 tsp
Urud dal - 1/2 tsp

Method

1. Heat 2 tsp of oil in a kadai and add seasoning ingredients. Once it splutters ( urud dal's colour has to be changed to light brown ) saute onion, garlic, green chil, tamarind, & Curry leaves till it becomes tender
2. Then add coconut, amlas & saute it for 2 to 3 minutes.
3. After cooling it down you can grind it & serve chutney with curd rice ( suitable for picnic recipe )

Note - If your urud dal & mustard seeds gets burnt, it leaves light bitter taste with chutney. So keep the flame low when seasoning.
